Dead keys, keys that repeat themselves, or a keyboard that stopped working after a spill. We repair and replace laptop keyboards and trackpads, and we check what the liquid reached before we call it fixed.
Three things account for most keyboard faults: liquid, dust and wear. Tea and coffee are the common ones, and the damage is rarely limited to the keys. Liquid travels down into the keyboard membrane and often onto the board underneath.
Wear shows up differently. The keys you use most stop registering first, or need a harder press than the rest. On some slim models the key mechanism itself is the weak point and a single key can fail on its own.
After a spill, the first job is not the keyboard. We open the laptop and check what the liquid actually reached, because residue sitting on the motherboard keeps corroding long after the surface looks dry. Cleaning that properly matters more than the keys do.
For mechanical faults we work out whether it is one key, the membrane, or the ribbon cable to the board. A single broken key mechanism can often be repaired on its own rather than replacing the whole keyboard.
Where a full replacement is needed we match the correct layout and connector for your model, refit it, and test every key including the function row and the backlight before handover.
The same five steps every time, so you always know where your laptop is and what it is going to cost.
We find out what has actually failed rather than replacing the part the symptom points at.
You get told what is wrong, what it will cost and whether the repair is worth doing, before any work starts.
The work is done on the bench with the right parts for your model, not a near enough substitute.
We run the laptop properly afterwards to confirm the fault is gone and nothing else has been disturbed.
You collect it, or we drop it back to you in the areas we cover.

Shut it down immediately, unplug the charger, turn it upside down so the liquid drains away from the board, and do not try to switch it on to see if it works. Bring it in as soon as you can. Time matters more than anything else with liquid damage.
Often yes. If the key mechanism or the keycap is the problem, that can be repaired on its own. If the membrane or ribbon cable underneath has failed, the keyboard is replaced as a unit.
As a temporary measure, yes. It is worth knowing that if a spill caused the fault, the liquid may still be corroding the board, and an external keyboard does nothing about that.
Yes. Trackpads are handled at the same time, and a trackpad that has stopped clicking is often being pushed up by a swollen battery rather than being faulty itself.
Tell us what your laptop is doing and we will tell you what it needs. Diagnosis first, then a clear price, then the repair.
