A stiff hinge tears the plastic around it, and then it starts pulling on the display cable. This is the repair people put off longest and the one where waiting costs the most.
Hinges stiffen as the grease inside them dries out. A stiff hinge needs more force to open, and that force goes into the screw posts in the plastic housing rather than into the hinge itself. The posts crack, the hinge works loose, and the lid starts lifting away from the base.
From there it gets expensive. The loose hinge pulls on the display cable and the antenna wires that run through it, and a cracked housing lets the screen flex. What started as a stiff hinge becomes a screen replacement and a cable replacement.
We open the display assembly and look at both the hinge mechanism and the housing it mounts into, because in most cases the housing is the part that has actually failed.
Seized hinges are cleaned and relubricated, or replaced where the mechanism is worn past that. Cracked screw posts are rebuilt so the hinge has something solid to mount into again, which is the part a purely cosmetic repair skips.
Then we check the display cable and antenna wires that pass through the hinge for damage, and we set the hinge tension so the lid holds its position through the full range.
The same five steps every time, so you always know where your laptop is and what it is going to cost.
We find out what has actually failed rather than replacing the part the symptom points at.
You get told what is wrong, what it will cost and whether the repair is worth doing, before any work starts.
The work is done on the bench with the right parts for your model, not a near enough substitute.
We run the laptop properly afterwards to confirm the fault is gone and nothing else has been disturbed.

We would not recommend it. Stiffness is the early stage, and it is much cheaper to address than the cracked housing and damaged display cable that follow.
Usually yes. The mounting posts can be rebuilt so the hinge has something solid to anchor into, which is what makes the repair last.
Very likely. The display cable runs through the hinge, and a loose or misaligned hinge chafes it. That needs looking at quickly.
Yes, including the display assembly on MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models.
Tell us what your laptop is doing and we will tell you what it needs. Diagnosis first, then a clear price, then the repair.
